Specs: Wanted a VA in the late 80’s but couldn’t afford one. 20 years later I managed to find the cash! This one came along just a few miles from where I live after searching everywhere on the net trying to buy one. Blueburst Custom Pro built 07/03/90. Signed by Mike Maguire and dated in neck pocket. 7/8 Alder body - 24 Fret. Schaller Floyd - Rose trem with VA logo. The neck is birdseye maple with a rosewood fretboard. It was in need of some minor surgery to get it to sound and feel the way I like. It had a bit of a static earth problem which I cured by shielding the pickguard, low E trem saddle had slipped forward, unit needed resetting to neutral point, intonation needed adjusting and I lowered the action quite a bit. Slight loss of sustain around 13th fret on the B string but just removed the neck and re-tightened the neck plate screws to fix it. Came to me with a non F-spaced Seymour Duncan pearly gates at the bridge. I’ve since installed new pick ups: Dimarzio DP181 neck with a micro switch coil tap, Fender custom shop middle, Dimarzio Evolution Bridge. This thing sounds absolutely awesome and I love it! The guitar is a player’s instrument and that’s exactly what I’ll be doing with it. It has a few gig scars here and there and I suspect it may end up with a few more when I start using it.
